How do I choose the right brush for my dog?

For effective brushing and without the risk of injuring your dog's skin, the brush should be suited to its type of hair, especially when using disentangling brushes and combs. A simple rule: the longer your dog's coat, the longer the teeth of the brush.

Also think about using an ergonomic brush. A good grip will be more comfortable for you, as well as for your dog.

When should I brush my dog?

A short daily brushing (5 to 10 minutes may be sufficient) is recommended, to avoid the formation of knots and to remove accumulated dirt.

A more extensive brushing (about 30 minutes) can be done 2 to 4 times a month.

We recommend that you get your dog used to brushing from an early age, so that it associates the action with a moment of bonding with you.

Should I brush my dog when it is wet or dry?

Dry hair will be easier to disentangle. Dry hair will pull less on the dog's skin.

1. Démêlage

For any animal its coat represents the best protection against external aggression.
Vétocanis brushes are there to help you care for the coat each day.

Below are the Vétocanis Tips which explain the 3 essential steps to follow to brush your companion properly

STEP 1: Disentangling the coat.

The purpose of this step is to make sure that all knots have been untangled before the brushing stage. It also helps to eliminate dead hairs from the undercoat.

STEP 2: Brushing.

With the knots untangled the coat can be brushed more easily. This step eliminates dead hair, dirt and dust, and gives shine and lustre to the coat.

STEP 3: Finishing.

This stage can involve cutting the nails, thinning out the fur, cutting hair that is too long around the ears and eyes, or even massaging your animal!
